As the leaves begin to change and fall, and as colder weeks descend on Philadelphia, the city begins to come into its own. Some of the year’s greatest events occur in Philadelphia’s autumn: take, for instance, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s upcoming interdisciplinary exhibition, Leger: Modern Art and the Metropolis. Lasting until January, a bevy of vital modernist works will be on display, along with related symposiums and film screenings. For a more modern take, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts hosts Brooklyn-based pop artist KAWS.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors, Philadelphia hosts a great number of outdoor dining—with fire pits and heating, of course. Center City and Old City combined have nearly thirty establishments for al fresco dining, all with heating to keep you toasty when it gets chilly. Philly’s first Bacon and Beer Festival kicks off on December 8th at Hotel Monaco. Guests will be treated to food and drink from local breweries like Victory and Troegs, and local charcuterie from 1732 Meats. Of course, one can always take a drive into the surrounding countryside—only minutes from Center City—to tour small farms harvesting their crops and to soak in the beautiful foliage.
